How to Switch AI Models

Change the AI model used by a workflow when you have top-up credits or need to adjust performance

VoxeDesk automatically selects the most appropriate AI model for your support chat. Model switching becomes available in your workflow settings when your account has top-up credits or when your monthly API quota has been reached.

When model switching appears

The Switch Model option appears in your workflow configuration when:

  • Your account has a credits balance (purchased from Dashboard → Billing → Add Credits), or
  • Your monthly API call limit has been reached for the current billing cycle

If you don't see a model switching option, your workflow is running on the default model, which is optimized for support and sales conversations and works well for the vast majority of use cases.

How to switch models

  1. Go to Dashboard → Workflows
  2. Open the workflow you want to update
  3. Click Switch Model (only visible when your account has credits or has reached its quota)
  4. Select a model from the list
  5. Click Confirm — the change takes effect for new messages immediately

All available models are from OpenAI. The list shows models compatible with your workflow's configuration.

Choosing the right model

  • Default model — the best starting point for most support and sales conversations. Fast, cost-effective, and handles the majority of customer questions well.
  • Lighter model — if responses feel slow under high message volume, a lighter option can reduce latency. Best for straightforward, single-step questions.
  • Higher-capability model — if your workflow handles complex, multi-step questions — technical troubleshooting, detailed policy interpretation, or tasks requiring multi-tool reasoning — a more capable model will perform better.
Note: Switching models does not change your knowledge base, system message, or integrations. If response quality changes after switching, review your system message — some instructions are model-sensitive.
